EXCLUSIVE: PDP Clears Valentine Ozigbo, Nwoye, 6 Others For Anambra Senatorial Primary

EXCLUSIVE: PDP CLEARS VALENTINE OZIGBO, NWOYE, 6 OTHERS FOR ANAMBRA SENATORIAL PRIMARY

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cleared sixty aspirants for the party’s primaries for National Assembly positions. Specifically, eight aspirants have been cleared to contest, including the party’s gubernatorial candidate for the November 2021 elections, Valentine Ozigbo.

In a certified document obtained by The Trent from a credible source from the PDP’s headquarters, Wadata House in Abuja, dated Monday, May 2, 2022, the screening committee for the national assembly aspirants, chaired by Rt Hon SKE Udeh Okoye, the committee cleared all senatorial aspirants but one, Hon Chuma Nzeribe.

Serving senators, Stella Oduah (representing Anambra North), a recent returnee to the PDP from the All Progressives Congress (APC) where she had decamped to in August 2021 and Uche Ekwunife (representing Anambra Central), Chris Uba (of the Ngige power tussle infamy), Tony Nwoye, a former governorship candidate of the party, Prince Okechukwu John Emeka, Dr Obinna Uzor, and Mrs Peace Ezeabikwa were all cleared to contest for the senatorial primary by the panel.

According to the report, Hon Nzeribe was disqualified for deliberately misleading the party in his nomination forms concerning his ongoing court cases. The panel reports that he had jumped bail in a fraud case brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and has an active bench warrant for his arrest.

This development clears the air following a weekend of an uncertified report circulating on social media falsely indicating that Ozigbo, Nwoye, and two others had been disqualified from contesting in the party’s senatorial primaries.

The report elicited a wave of protests at the national level of the PDP and in Anambra because Valentine Ozigbo is an inspirational figure and natural crowd-puller who is considered one of the party’s best governorship candidates ever produced.

Mrs Imade Ize-Ayamu, a PDP stalwart from Edo State, wrote in protest to Dr Iyorchia Ayu, the National Chairman, over the weekend, “Valentine Ozibo, Nigeria’s star boy that congratulated Soludo and won the hearts of Nigeria. A man that has made himself visible in all PDP’s functions. A very polite and respectful man. The kind of man Anambarians needs on the Senate to represent them and Nigerians”.

Similar reactions trailed the controversy, which has now been laid to rest by this report.

BREAKING: VALENTINE OZIGBO ACCEPTS CALL TO RUN FOR ANAMBRA SOUTH SENATORIAL SEAT

Valentine Ozigbo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the Anambra gubernatorial election of 2021, has accepted the clamour by the political blocs in the state to run for the Anambra South Senatorial seat.

In a conference call with journalists in Anambra on Sunday, April 17, 2022, the respected business mogul confirmed that he had accepted to call by “his people, the people of Anambra South, and influential voices across Anambra State” to run for the seat.

Mr Ozigbo’s first foray into politics in 2020 is considered one of the most inspiring political stories in Nigeria’s recent history. He made history when he clinched the gubernatorial ticket of the PDP in a keenly contested primary in June 2021. He came second in the main election behind Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), who was making his fourth attempt at the governorship.

Following the gubernatorial election, the clamour for Ozigbo to run for the senatorial seat of Anambra South began with youth groups and political blocs in the state pushing for him to serve at the Red Chamber.

A multiple-award-winning global CEO, Ozigbo, is positioned to clinch the Anambra South Senatorial zone ticket in the primary slated for May 2022 as the most popular and widely accepted aspirant.

Ozigbo has been widely praised for his style of politics, which is issues-based and devoid of bitterness. In recognition of his political exploits, disposition to power, and contribution to humanity, a coalition of organisations led by the 100 Achievers Organisation awarded him the Anambra Man of the Year 2021 honour.

Ozigbo resigned from his role as President and Group CEO of Transcorp Plc in 2020 to dedicate the next chapter of his life to public service. He is the Founder of the eponymously named non-profit charity, Valentine Chineto Ozigbo (VCO) Foundation, through which he has positively impacted the lives of over 500,000 in his native Anambra State.

VALENTINE OZIGBO CONDEMNS CULT-RELATED MASSACRE AT ANAMBRA FUNERAL

Business leader calls for Ndigbo conference to re-evaluate moral code

Valentine Ozigbo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2021 Anambra governorship election, condemned the mass murder over the weekend at a funeral ceremony held in Ebenebe, Awka North LGA of Anambra State.

According to eyewitness accounts, at least sixteen mourners were killed and several others wounded when a gang of thugs believed to be cultists attacked the burial ceremony of the late Mr Chibuike Joseph Chukwuka, who was reportedly assassinated at the age of 32. The sad event occurred at Umuognuefi Primary School field, and social media videos showed dozens of victims, including a young girl lying in blood and a desecrated coffin.

In a statement made available to the press on Monday, February 28, 2022, Mr Ozigbo described the tragic incident as “shocking”, “unacceptable”, and “a horror that must be collectively condemned”.

“Over the weekend, I received the report of a horrific incident in Ebenebe where about sixteen people were killed as they attended the funeral service of their relative and friend, whose life was also tragically cut short,” Ozigbo, an internationally-recognised peace advocate, said.

“The images of the crime scene shared on social media are shocking, horrific, and should not be normalised in any way.

“The South East, particularly Anambra State, has witnessed tragic waves of violence which have claimed the lives of hundreds of our people, both young and old,” Ozigbo added.

Ozigbo, whose non-profit organisation, the Valentine Chineto Ozigbo (VCO) Foundation, has been at the forefront of several peace-making initiatives in southeastern Nigeria, called on the Anambra State government and other concerned stakeholders to make solid efforts towards securing lives and property in the state.

“This latest incident marks a turning point in the decline of our values as Igbos and should be unacceptable to all of us, and we must take steps as leaders to intervene,” Ozigbo continued.

“This is not an issue to be treated with kid’s gloves or swept under the carpet. We must address the root cause of this anomaly and not just the symptoms.

“We must go back to the drawing board, reaccess our value system, emphasise moral values and uphold the sanctity of human life.

“Importantly, we must assemble as soon as possible, the thought leaders, political, traditional, women, and youth leaders need to come together and re-evaluate our moral code. We must take steps to arrest this development before it consumes us all,” Ozigbo warned.

A multi-award-winning global CEO who was recently named the 2021 Anambra Man of the Year, Ozigbo commiserated with all those affected by the savage attack and the members of the Ebenebe community who have been traumatized by this event. He prayed for God to grant the souls of the departed a peaceful repose.

Onye Amuho Agulu o na ebe! Meet Anambra youngest SAN Chief Alex Ejesieme-SAN(OCHI AGHA AGULU)

By Duke Okosun

It was Edmund Burke, the famous Irish politician who said that the study of law renders man acute, inquisitive, dextrous, prompt in attack, ready in defence, and full of resources. All over the world, the legal profession ranks among the most noble, the most attractive and the most interesting of all professions. It is established on honour, integrity and hard work.

A good lawyer must be studious and most times almost does not have a social life. It is not a profession for the faint of heart. The Nigerian legal profession rewards excellence, hardwork and success in the profession with the prestigious Senior Advocate of Nigeria title. Indeed, it is the zenith of all professional accomplishments and the dream of every Lawyer who loves his job and is diligent at it. Some attain that position at the twilight of their career. That is why it is more of a great news when a young person becomes a learned silk. That is the case of Mr. Alex Ejesieme who was tutored by the legend himself, Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu.

Alex has proven to be the chip off the old block through the way he handles his briefs. He has done so well that at the time of his elevation, he was the youngest person who has attained that position from Anambra state. This is despite the fact that Anambra boasts of the highest number of Senior Advocates by State in Nigeria. Alex has done so well for himself and has made the State proud.

According to him, “An ideal Lawyer is one who is dedicated to his client, hard-working, resolute and dedicated to his practice, one who takes active steps to keep himself abreast with the ever changing intricacies of the legal profession, to ensure that he is not caught off guard at any given moment. In addition to that, an ideal Lawyer also strives to play an active role in the enthronement of the rule of law where ever he finds himself, whilst also maintaining utmost professionalism and discipline in his interactions with all individuals irrespective of their status as clients or non clients”.

He was recently nominated Anambra Legal Person of the Year and according to the organizers of the award event, “his selection was based on his outstanding exploits in the legal profession which has seen him deliver on landmark cases that will have great impact on our journey as a nation”. In one of his landmark and highly celebrated cases, Alex was able to argue and subsequently convince the Court that once a candidate is nominated by his party, he will be included on INEC’s list until the supreme court rules otherwise. He has through this case enriched the Nigerian electoral system and strengthened it, eliminating frivolous injunctions that are usually resorted to by desperate politicians to scuttle the electoral process.

Alexander is a consummate professional who has the uncommon talent of combining litigation with other top level corporate commercial practice. His attention to details, calmness and ability to simplify and proffer solutions to complex issues coupled with his go-getter attitude and his considerable experience in corporate transactions requiring mastery of Nigerian business, legal and commercial climate have been of immense value to legal development. Alex has continued to contribute to the deepening of the Nigerian legal system with his mastery of laws and his innovative approach to practice.
